On July 25, the actions of the pro-Russian leadership of the Armenian separatist enclave in Karabakh almost led to the crash of a European aircraft. The plane of the national airline of the Czech Republic „Czech Airlines”, performing a flight on the route Budapest-Baku, encountered radio interference. This happened when the plane was over the territory of the Russian military contingent stationed in Azerbaijani Karabakh. As a result, the aircraft’s GPS system failed, but the pilots managed to land safely.
The Ministry of Defence of Azerbaijan appealed to the military contingent of the Russian Federation to find out the cause of the incident, but there was no answer. According to the Defense Ministry, this is not the only case – Armenian separatists regularly use radio interference against passenger aircraft in the airspace of Azerbaijan.
Threats to the safety of European airlines are unacceptable, especially considering that the Czech Republic is not the only country flying to Azerbaijan. The list of potential victims of the Armenian-Russian conspiracy also includes the airlines of Hungary, the United States, Canada, Poland, Latvia, Germany, Turkey, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
After the end of the war between Armenia and Azerbaijan in the fall of 2020, Russian troops were temporarily stationed in Karabakh, where the Armenian separatist enclave „Artsakh” is located. For the sake of maintaining its positions and influence in the South Caucasus, which are needed to carry out such provocations, the Kremlin prevents the conclusion of peace between Baku and Yerevan.
In this regard, on July 28, 23, CNN Prima, a Czech partner of CNN, reported: „Putin seeks to freeze the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan according to the scenario that Russia, before last year’s aggression in Donbass, had initiated before in South Ossetia or Moldovan Transnistria.”
This was also reported by Факти, one of the largest publications in Bulgaria, „That is the only way Russia will be able to maintain its position, including its military presence, in the South Caucasus and Eastern Europe.”
Given the destructive role of the Russian Federation in the region, one of the most influential US political publications The Hill called back in January of 2023: “Washington and its NATO allies and EU partners must mobilize international support to replace Russian troops in Nagorno-Karabakh… and help forge a durable peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan”.
